Memo from Msgr. Raun- Thursday May 7th, 2020

My dear family,

Greetings in the Risen Lord!

REASONS TO HOPE IN GOD'S GOODNESS
God will walk with you in your dark and fearful days!

“Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me” (Psalm 23:4). The last couple of months have been dark for many around the world, but God hasn’t abandoned us. We will go through more dark periods in the future, but God will walk through them with us, too. If God is with us, it doesn’t matter who is against us.

PRAISE REPORT: from Debbie, one of our Care Callers...
"The gal, Patsy, on the call list is really Hans and he isn’t a parishioner of St Thomas but I asked if he wanted me to continue calling him and he said yes. I did a follow up call last week and he said he was in need of beans and milk and sanitizer, so Jeff and I dropped him those few items on Saturday. How thankful he was that someone would go out of their way to bring him those things. He has cancer in the abdomen and doesn’t get out much except his cancer treatment appointments and gardening in his yard. He is a beautiful soul. Just wanted to let you know. There is such a need even outside of St Thomas who need just a word of encouragement or a “bag of beans.”

PARISH FOOD DRIVE FOR ST. FELIX PANTRY : St. Felix Pantry has experienced about a 30% increase in clients who need food due to being temporarily or permanently laid off from their jobs.  So, St. Thomas Aquinas will host a food drive for the Pantry on Saturday, May 16th at the church.  Their truck will be parked across from the front door of the church, sacristy side, from 7:30 AM until 7:00 PM.  While the Pantry can accept donations of canned goods, packaged pasta, beans and rice and other non-perishable items, they are  asking primarily for monetary donations to continue to provide food to the community since they require volunteers to sanitize the products before handing them out and fewer volunteers are available since some have been staying home to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

HOLINESS TIP: “Love is the most beautiful sentiment the Lord has put into the soul of men and women.” Love, indeed, must guide how we treat those in our households, and all we meet, virtual or not, especially at this time of stress and uncertainty. .(inspired from the sayings of St.Gianna Molla).

DAILY PARISH WORSHIP during the Quarantine:
9 am - Holy Mass on-line
5:30 pm Confessions in the Adoration Chapel (Monday through Saturday)
6 pm Holy Hour on-line

WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF MAY - PRAY THE ROSARY EVERY DAY!

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:
Dear Friends : Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down! Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron calmed me down as she said everything will be fine: no situation is too pressing. Well, my vacuum cleaner said that we just have to suck it up and get on with things. My cooker said there’s no pressure and my bed said I should sleep on it.  I've just chatted to my blender who suggests we should try to blend in with everyone......but the kettle was boiling mad with all the restrictions!

OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY: by Pope St. Gregory the Great
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, by Your radiant and magnificent resurrection, You broke the bonds of death and rose from the grave as a conqueror. You reconciled Heaven and earth. Our life had no hope of eternal happiness before You redeemed us. Your resurrection has washed away our sins, restored our innocence, and brought us joy. How inestimable is the tenderness of Your love!

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !
Msgr. Doug Raun
