Memo from Msgr. Raun - Thursday, April 23rd, 2020

My dear family in the Lord,

Today is the feast-day of St. George, the famous Christian knight and martyr, who so famously killed the dragon. So today I'm praying to him to kill our 21st century dragon, the corona virus!

Some more Bible verses for our Quarantine meditation !

Jesus is Our Healer

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness” (Matthew 9:35).

The Word of the Lord Ministers Healing

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave” (Psalm 107:19-20).

DAILY PARISH WORSHIP during the Quarantine:9 am - Holy Mass on-line
5:30 pm Confessions in the Adoration Chapel (Monday through Saturday)
6 pm Holy Hour on-line

PRAISE REPORT: CARE CALLS continue to be made. We thank God for all the dedicated volunteers who have made this ministry happen! As our parishioner Coleen wrote me:

"The idea for the care calls was inspired by the Holy Spirit. People have been deeply touched to know that you are praying for them and that the Church is here for them. It has been a blessing for me to talk with them. It's an amazing thing to see the body of Christ working together so beautifully. Some people are hesitant when they first answer the phone but once they hear, "Monsignor Raun from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish wanted me to call and see how you're doing"...they really start to open up and are very grateful to know that they haven't been forgotten. "

We will be making a few changes with the Care Calls. Because we don't want to become "pests", we will be making the calls no longer weekly but monthly, with the big exception of when the Care Caller knows a person wants or needs to be called more often. How our elderly parishioners need human and spiritual contact at this time!

I still feel bad that there are people not receiving a Care Call because we don't have a working number for them. If you talk to such a person, please ask them to call the parish office to give us their working phone number!

SHARE US ON-LINE on your social media. Download the parish app onto your smart phone or tablet. It the easiest way to receive everything the parish has to enrich your life.

HOLINESS TIP: Forgiveness is really hard, as it is more natural for us humans to carry grudges and to seek revenge. I have heard more than one person in my life say, “I will never forgive, and I will never forget.” They say that as if it is some kind of badge of honor concerning how bad the other person has hurt them. But Jesus forgave his torturers and accusers from the cross, so that we, His followers, MUST do the same. Otherwise, we are Christians in name only. If we can’t forgive right away, then we should pray continually for the grace to do so.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:
Day 7 at home and the cat is looking at me like, “See? This is why I shred the furniture!”

I never thought the comment “I wouldn’t touch him/her with a 6 foot pole” would become a national policy, but here we are!

OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
Mighty God, Saint George was called the "Victory Bringer" because he relied on Your power to defeat evil wherever he went. Starting out as a soldier in his country's army, he converted and became a soldier for Christ. Laying down the world's armor by giving his wealth to the poor, he forever after carried the shield of faith and won many victories for those who sought Your help. I ask him to pray for the battles I've been enduring, and to bring Your triumph into my life. Help me to overcome the Enemy, Lord Jesus, and teach me how to protect myself with ever-increasing faith. Saint George, pray for me. Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !

Msgr. Doug Raun
