Memo from Msgr. Raun - Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020

My dear family in the Lord,

Today's Bible verses for our Quarantine meditation !

Be Still to Take Refuge in God in Trouble

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea… He makes wars cease… He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’ The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress” (Psalm 46:1-2, 9-11).

Rest in the Lord’s Beauty and Strength to be Safe

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? … Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling” (Psalm 27:1, 3-5).

God’s Mighty Hand Protects and Cares for You

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).

DAILY PARISH WORSHIP during the Quarantine:9 am - Holy Mass on-line
5:30 pm Confessions in the Adoration Chapel (Monday through Saturday)
6 pm Holy Hour on-line

PRAISE REPORT: I just got off the phone with Deacon Dave Little. He told me that we had lots of people at our first online Alpha last night,  including a person from New York State ! They are related to a parishioner, learned about Alpha, and decided to join our group. How wonderful! No virus is going to keep us from our God-given task: to win souls for Jesus Christ!

WORD FROM UGANDA: I received an email from our dear parish friend, Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa, who has helped us out for a month every summer for many years. He is well, and sends his greetings. They are in the same situation that we are: a "stay at home" order, businesses closed, and public Mass suspended. Right now it looks as if he will not be coming this summer - I think it will be a while before regular international travel is restored. He promises prayer for us, and I promised our prayers for the Church and people in Uganda.

CARE KITS  went out yesterday to our parishioners in need, especially those who cannot leave their houses to go shopping. These are boxes of basic foodstuffs and household goods. They are provided free of charge, and are delivered to the house with no physical contact. If you know someone in need of a Care Kits, just call the parish office: 892-1511.

SHARE US ON-LINE on your social media. Download the parish app onto your smart phone or tablet. It the easiest way to receive everything the parish has to enrich your life.

HOLINESS TIP:Contrary to what we see in the movies, love is not just romance or a mushy feeling. Rather, it is wanting the very best for everyone and self-sacrificing yourself for that purpose. Of course, the devil with his great pride wants us all to be like him, putting ourselves first and foremost above everything and everybody else. Making sure that everyone you meet or with whom you live has the best you can offer them through your self-sacrifice of time, talent, and treasure, not only helps them, but it also makes God very happy.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:
This virus has done what no woman had been able to do…cancel all sports, shut down all bars, and keep men at home!!!

Do not call the police on suspicious people in your neighborhood!  Those are your neighbors without makeup and hair extensions!

Since we can’t eat out, now’s the perfect time to eat better, get fit, and stay healthy. We’re quarantined! Who are we trying to impress? We have snacks, we have sweatpants – I say we use them!

OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Risen Christ,
for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred:
open the doors of our hearts,
that we may seek the good of others
and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace,
to the praise of God the Father
Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !

Msgr. Doug Raun
