Memo from Msgr. Raun - Friday, June 5th, 2020

My dear family,

Greetings in the Lord Jesus!

WAYS TO HOLD ON TO JOY IN TROUBLED TIMES
Remember How the Story Ends

Jesus told his disciples they would mourn what was going to happen to Him, but that they would end up rejoicing. Jesus knew He would rise from the dead—and when His followers saw it, everything would change.

We have an advantage over them because we know what happened. We also have the Bible where we can read ahead to what will occur. If we only gain one bit of information about the future from our reading, it is this: Jesus will return in victory one day.

This knowledge can keep us afloat when circumstances seem overwhelming. In spite of our current situation, we can have hope based in rock-solid truth.

Our hope is based on the power of Jesus Christ Himself. What greater source of joy could we possibly imagine?

“ …You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy." John 16:20

ANOTHER SUNDAY COMING: And yes, there are these things that are so strange to us that we must do to go to Mass. As Fr. McKee says, it all seems unreal, but that is life in the corona-virus age. We all need to keep the Lord's Day holy - that is the unchanging commandment of God. But we are taking a "two-tract" approach to it nowadays. For those who are "high risk" or do not feel safe, we continue to provide Mass and Holy Hour on-line each day. The Archbishop has dispensed us from the Sunday Mass obligation for the time being.

But that does not mean that we are forbidden to go to Mass! We are making every effort to provide a safe environment in church. The church is thoroughly disinfected after each Mass.  Wearing masks, social distancing, and everything else we are doing during this time to protect people should allow the faithful who are not "high-risk" to come to Mass with confidence. I feel that, with all the precautions we are taking,  coming to Mass is at least just as safe as going to the supermarket or Costco, if not more so.

HOW TO GO TO MASS:
1. Weekday Mass - just show up.    Saturday evening and Sunday Mass - make a reservation by calling the parish     office (892-1511) or go to stanm.org or use the parish app.
2. Wear a mask.

3. Be prepared to receive Communion in the hand.

CONFESSIONS: Monday through Friday - 5 pm, Saturday - 2:30 pm You need to be in the church at those times if you wish to confess. When the last penitent in line has confessed, the priest will not wait around: he will go home!

PLEASE SHARE ALL THIS INFORMATION WITH THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET!

HOLINESS TIP  for Making Prayers of Petition More Effective.. Pray IN HIS NAME, surrendering to His will. “So that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.”(Jn. 15:16) God only gives us what is good, for our good. So if a prayer is not answered as requested, trust Him anyway. He loves you more than you love yourself.God respects your freedom, and you must respect His.

As a professor in graduate school said, “Stop treating God like a senile old grandfather you expect to give you the keys to the Porsche whenever you want!”

PRAY FOR OUR NATION! PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:

Real quotes from church bulletins......
Newsletters are not being sent to absentees because of their weight.

Jean will be leading a weight-management series Wednesday nights. She's used the program herself and has been growing like crazy!

Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY: June is the month of the Sacred Heart....
Holy Heart of Jesus, Sweet Sanctuary of rest,
bring peace to my soul and settle my spirit,
I vow to place all of my worries and fears
into the wound of your Sacred Heart,
there to be tended to in accordance with your perfect will,
which desires only my best and highest good.
Your love alone is enough, and I surrender to it;
clinging to hope and trusting with confidence in all of your promises.
Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !
