Memo from Msgr. Raun - Tuesday, May 5th, 2020

My dear family in the Lord,

Greetings in the Risen Lord!

REASONS TO HOPE IN GOD'S GOODNESS

Today Psalm 23 teaches us....

God will replenish your strength when you’re empty!

“He refreshes my soul” (Psalm 23:3). In the midst of this pandemic, many of you are completely "out of gas" and have been running on fumes these last few weeks . God promises to give you the resilience you need for any trouble you encounter today or tomorrow.

MONSIGNOR, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO START HAVING MASS AGAIN? PART II I hear from some folk that we should be having public Mass no matter what the danger - very few will die from the virus, and even if we do, we should be like the martyrs who were willing to suffer and die for Jesus Christ.

Yes, the overwhelming majority of those who get COVID-19 will not die of it. Indeed, some will have no symptoms, some will get mildly ill, and some only moderately so. But about 15% will need to go to the hospital. And about 1 to 2% will die. They will be mostly elderly and sick people - who together with the unborn are the most helpless and vulnerable part of our population,

You might not even know you have the virus, but you will give it to someone, who will give it to someone, who will give it to someone, who will die. Friends, Christians - especially Catholic Christians - are Pro-Life. We are committed to protecting the lives of the most vulnerable. The 5th Commandment – Thou Shall Not Kill – is, and always shall be, God's unchanging Law. This has nothing to do with our own personal willingness to suffer for our Eucharistic Lord. It has to do with us not being  unwitting agents of illness or even death for another person. It is an act of love towards others.

Many saints were willing to endanger their own lives to receive Holy Communion. I am not aware of one saint who was willing to endanger the life of another person to receive Holy Communion.

HOLINESS TIP: “As to the past, let us entrust it to God’s mercy, the future to divine Providence. Our task is to live holy the present moment.” This is my life’s motto. I strive to remind myself to do so daily. No matter what pandemic, what deadline, what is calling for our attention, holiness is the goal, from how we interact with those God has put into our lives to what he is asking of us in work or life at home.(inspired from the sayings of St.Gianna Molla).

DAILY PARISH WORSHIP during the Quarantine:9 am - Holy Mass on-line
5:30 pm Confessions in the Adoration Chapel (Monday through Saturday)
6 pm Holy Hour on-line

WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF MAY - PRAY THE ROSARY EVERY DAY!

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:
How bad is it that Cinco de Mayo finally falls on Taco Tuesday and will get messed up by a virus with the same name as a Mexican beer!

 OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
Dear Lord, may I realize afresh today what Your death and resurrection mean for me: forgiveness, freedom, and the ability to walk with You through this fallen world into eternity. May I always find my satisfaction and fulfillment in You. Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !

lopezcc@cableone.net As elderly parishioners of STA we have really appreciated your daily masses, prayers and daily comments. We are ok with your decisions as long as necessary. We know you are doing your best for us all. we know how easy we can contract viruses since we have been victims and by the same token we never want to give our viruses to others. Since sitting in close proximity to each other we can easily get infected. We are following the Governor's orders & are self distancing at our home. God bless our Pope, Monsignor, Priests & all who are doing all possible to keep us safe. In the name of the Father, Son & Holy Trinity along with our blessed Virgin Mother Mary may we all be safe.
