Memo from Msgr. Raun -Saturday, April 18th, 2020

My dear family in the Lord,

The Lord is risen. ALLELUIA !

On this eve of Divine Mercy Sunday, let us meditate on the words our Lord Jesus spoke to His servant, Saint Faustina :

Let the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy. My daughter, write about My mercy towards tormented souls. Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more graces than they ask. I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to My compassion, but on the contrary, I justify him in My unfathomable and inscrutable mercy. Write: before I come as a just Judge, I first open wide the door of My mercy. He who refuses to pass through the door of My mercy must pass through the door of My justice…

Before the Day of Justice I am sending the Day of Mercy.

My Heart rejoices in this title of Mercy.

HOW TO GAIN THE BLESSINGS OF DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: As many of you know, our Lord promised the total remission of sin and it's punishments to those who, having sincerely repented of their sins and gone to Confession, receive Holy Communion on the Feast of Mercy. Well, that's a challenge this year during the Quarantine! But don't despair! Our Lord understands these things. This is what you do:
1. Make an Act of Contrition.

If you can’t get to Confession, remember what the Catechism teaches us: “If you have true contrition for your sins (contrition is 'sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again.’),  you’ll be completely forgiven of all sins, even mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to go to the Sacrament of Penance (confession) as soon as possible. (see the Catechism, paragraph 1452).

2. Make a Spiritual Communion.

Again, with Mass not being publicly celebrated, you can’t receive Communion. The answer? Make a Spiritual Communion instead, asking God to come into your heart as if you received Him in Holy Communion — Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. Do this with the intent to return to the sacrament of Holy Communion as soon as possible.

Here is a beautiful prayer of Spiritual Communion. We read this prayer at every Mass we broadcast online:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire You in my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
As though You were already there,
I embrace You and unite myself to You;
permit not that I should ever be separated from You.
Amen.

3. Pray this or a similar prayer:

“Lord Jesus Christ, You promised St. Faustina that the soul that has been to Confession [I’m unable, but I made an Act of Contrition] and the soul that receives Holy Communion [I’m unable, but I made a Spiritual Communion] will receive the complete forgiveness of all sins and punishment. Please, Lord Jesus Christ, give me this grace.”

DAILY PARISH WORSHIP during the Quarantine:9 am - Holy Mass on-line
5:30 pm Confessions in the Adoration Chapel (Monday through Saturday)
6 pm Holy Hour on-line

THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA will be part of the 6 pm Holy Hour each day this week.

PRAISE REPORT: The Praise Reports are flowing in! Coleen is one of our Care Callers. She shared with us some comments she received from parishioners this past week:
"I have to admit, watching Mass online is strange and beautiful at the same time. Monsignor's message last Sunday was very comforting, and I may even make my kids listen to it again...I'm a teacher, so I've been busy checking on parents and kids every night...and it is SO WONDERFUL to know someone is checking on me and my family to see if we're okay! I can much that means!"

"Thank you so much for your call! We're elderly but still able to get out and about."

"You brought me peace. Thank you for praying with me. God bless you!"

"Is there anything you need?" "I need the Eucharist! That's what I love about being Catholic...I hope we can receive again soon!"

God bless our Care Callers. They give up a lot of time to perform this ministry, but how wonderful it is, and what blessings are they giving to people!

NEW ALPHA SERIES! : We have 20 people signed up already! How about you? How about inviting someone you know? Just go to stanm.org to register (which you have to do because we are going to have it on Zoom.)
SHARE US ON-LINE on your social media. Download the parish app onto your smart phone or tablet. It the easiest way to receive everything the parish has to enrich your life.
HOLINESS TIP: Pray for first responders and medical personnel. Consider sending a gift card, a Mass card, or a note of thanks to those you know.
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:

I need to practice 'social-distancing' from the refrigerator!
So, after this quarantine, will the producers of 'My 600 Pound Life' just find me, or do I find them?

Better 6 feet apart than 6 feet under...

Dear Father, draw my thoughts upward toward You every minute of every day, but especially this Easter Season. Help me resist the temptation to focus on the painful things of this earthly life and learn to control my thoughts so they don’t sink my faith or joy in You. I ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !
