Hello, my dear family!
Well, the big news for this week is to invite everyone to come next Saturday, August 25, to our Parish Picnic, at Haynes Park (the park across from Intel). It’s going to be a great time – outdoor Mass at 4 pm, followed by all sorts of food, fun events, and time for fellowship. Events like this are so important for our parish. Being such a large spiritual community, and with so many different weekend Masses, it’s easy to not know one another. Here we will all have time to join together in worship and just enjoy one another’s company. Now, a few answers to questions you have:
- Yes, the 4 pm Saturday Picnic Mass does fulfill the Sunday obligation.
- No, there is no charge or fee for the picnic – but there will be the regular collection at Mass !
Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard on the picnic, and to all the groups that have subsidized the expenses.
PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER! I hope to see you there!
As we have been announcing, now is the time to get our kids registered for Religious Education, which starts right after Labor Day.
Our parish offers comprehensive religious education to our children at all ages:
- Traditional catechism classes for children kindergarten through 8th grace. These include preparation for first Confession in 2nd grade and 1st Communion in 3rd grade.
- “The Edge” – non-classroom based religious education for 7th and 8th graders.
- “LifeTeen” – non-classroom based religious education for high school students.
- Confirmation : traditional Confirmation classes for all teens who are age 16 by the end of the calendar year.
- And many other Bible studies and prayer groups for our teens.
There is NO FEE to send a child to any of our religious education programs. Our weekly Sacrificial Giving pays for it.
Now friends, I’m a little worried. The past few years we have been seeing numbers go down for children/youth Religious Ed. I’m told this is a trend being seen throughout the nation. For example, our records show that we should have 450 teens who are registered members of our parish preparing for Confirmation. As of today, we have about 40 enrolled.
I know that you are not the problem! People who go to Mass….people who read the bulletin!!!!! send their kids to religion class. That is why I need your help to reach out to family, friends, and neighbors to encourage them to send their kids. Because our kids need Jesus. At every time and in every place all people need Jesus, but as weird as the world is becoming, this next generation is really going to need Jesus to have any happiness and meaning in their lives.
To get children into Religious Ed, just get on the website (stanm.org) or call or stop by the parish office.
Thanks for your help in this matter! It’s so important.
While we are on the topic, Sister Roseanne is pulling her hair out. She needs 10 more catechism teachers. This is such a fulfilling ministry. You don’t need a Master’s Degree in theology- just a basic knowledge of the faith, common sense, and a good heart. If you would like to help, just call the office.
I don’t want to sound like a nag, but: we need to dress modestly for Mass. The rule is so simple : we need to be clothed from the neck to the knees. Parents – I need your help to be teaching this to our children.
Once all the villagers decided to pray for rain.
On the day of prayer all the villagers gathered,
but only one boy came with an umbrella.
When you throw babies in the air,
they laugh because they know you will catch them.
A blessed week!
