Memo from Msgr. Raun- Tuesday May 19th, 2020

My dear family,

Greetings in the Risen Lord!

TREASURES FROM THE QUARANTINE:
The Treasure of Tested Faith
When life becomes chaotic and the future seems uncertain, surprisingly, this is the time when God grows our faith. We begin our journey with Jesus by faith in the power of the Gospel, and we continue our adventure with Him by faith in the power of His ongoing, sanctifying grace in the face of trials and afflictions.

Joshua 1:9 and Psalm 34:4 remind us that God is present with us, and He wants to deliver us from all our fears.

Beyond concerns that we might run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer, many new fears about the future sprang up to trouble God’s people during the pandemic. What would happen to family members if we suddenly got COVID-19? How would we cope with being cut off from family and friends? Would our children survive our homeschooling? Would God continue to provide? These and other questions required faith in God in the present while trusting Him for the future.

Matthew 6:25-34 reminds us not to worry about tomorrow. We’re not to be anxious, but rather to—in the moment—present our requests, with thanksgiving, to the Lord. We may want many things, but God supplies His children’s needs.

Remember the faithfulness of God. Remember how He has been good and faithful to you in the past, and how He supplied your needs during the height of the pandemic. Continue to hand over your fears, worries, and anxieties to Him, knowing He cares for you and will provide for your needs.

Circumstances change, but He can be trusted through every uncertainty and replace every nagging fear with His peace. When we are afraid, we need to stop and refresh our faith in God, our ever-present help.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. (Psalm 56:3)

HOW TO GO TO MASS: NEWS, NEWS, NEWS !!!  Well, we had a big staff meeting today, and carefully reviewed our experience from the past weekend. With that in mind, I am happy to announce the following changes:
1. Reservations are no longer required for weekday Mass. Just show up as often as you like.
2. Reservations are still required for Saturday evening and Sunday Mass. We are increasing the number of available seats to 200 people. Everyone is welcome to attend one weekend Mass a week - so, if you came last Sunday, you can come this Sunday. Just make a new reservation each week.
3. To make a reservation, just go to the parish website or app, or call the parish office.
3. Wear a mask. If you don't wear a mask, you won't be let into the church.
4. Receive Holy Communion on the hand. It's much safer for everyone.

Remember:
1. The Sunday Mass obligation is suspended: no one commits a sin at this time by  missing Sunday Mass.

2. People who are high risk are encouraged to stay home. If you are sick, please stay home!!!

3. If you are reading this, and you are under 60 years old, God wants you to consider being of service to your parish family by being an usher, reader, or Eucharistic minister. To volunteer for these services that are so critically needed at this time, just call the parish office at 892-1511, and give your name and contact information. We will get back to you!

NEW CONFESSION TIMES: IMPORTANT !

Because of the restoration of public Masses, we need to adjust the Confession times. The current schedule is:
Monday through Friday - 5 pm
Saturday - 2:30 pm
You need to be in the church at those times if you wish to confess. When the last penitent in line has confessed, the priest will not wait around: he will go home!

CONGRATULATIONS !

To these children who were baptized this past weekend: Erza James Garcia-Gonzales,
Esai Joseph Garcia Gonzales and Cornelius Telesfor Padilla

and to Vincent Bethoney and Tiana Sam who were joined in Holy Matrimony this past Saturday.

WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF MAY - PRAY THE ROSARY EVERY DAY!
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE:

-The world is now Las Vegas. Everybody is losing money, it's acceptable to drink at all hours, and no one has any idea what day it is.

- I just read a book on marriage that says to treat your wife like you treated her on your first date. So after dinner tonight I'm dropping her off at her parents house.

OUR PRAYER FOR THE DAY: by St. Alcuin
O God, Who by Thine Almighty Word dost enlighten every man that comes into the world: enlighten, we beseech Thee, the hearts of us Thy servants by the glory of Thy grace, that we may ever think such things as are worthy and well-pleasing to Thy Majesty, and love Thee with a perfect heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I send you my fatherly blessing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen !
